Facebook Is Charging for Links: Here’s What Clubs Can Do

23 October 2026

Circular 26-067

Relevant for member clubs

We understand that Meta has begun rolling out a new pricing model that limits the number of external links some business pages can share through organic Facebook posts and comeents.

At this stage, we are not aware of any clubs being impacted, and the changes do not appear to have been applied to all Facebook Pages. However, if your club relies heavily on Facebook for advertising and regularly posts links to your club website, ticketing platforms, band websites or other external sites, this is something you need to be aware of.

For pages affected by the changes, the free allowance is reportedly limited to two posts or comments containing links per month. Businesses wanting to share more external links may need to subscribe to one of Meta's paid plans, with reported pricing ranging up to around $900 per month for unlimited links.

You will know if you have reached you limit as you will see a pop up similar to the image below:

The changes are another timely reminder of the importance of having an online presence that your club controls.

If Facebook is your club's primary online presence, or even if it isn't, now might be a good time to look at having your own website.

Clubs New Zealand offers members an affordable website option through ClubSites, providing clubs with a professional and easy-to-maintain website that integrates directly with the Clubs New Zealand App.

When you publish content to your ClubSite, it can also be displayed in the Clubs New Zealand Mobile App for your members alongside their digital membership card.
